POSITION OVERVIEW:

Plans, directs and coordinates manufacturing processes.  Develops and improves manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods and quality control standards. 

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Documents manufacturing methods in a manner in which others can produce a product with little or no knowledge of the product. 
  • Aids in product design utilizing Design for Manufacturing and Assembly concepts. Works with design engineering for introduction of new products to production.  
  • Analyses and plans work force utilization, space requirements, workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency. 
  • Confers with vendors to determine product specification and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials or parts.
  • Estimates production times, staffing requirements and related costs.  Confers with management and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, etc. to facilitate production processes. 
  • Applies statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements.  Understanding of RF Theory and the cause and effect relationship between electrical and mechanical properties may be utilized in higher levels of position.
  • Has direct influence on Continuous Improvement methodologies and creating a culture of learning and growth.

Continuous Improvement/Automation implementation:

  • Design and implement engineering and/or process solutions for increased quality, improved throughput and reduced costs

§  Development of automation for assembly or testing phases

§  Apply lean manufacturing techniques to existing manual assembly lines to improve quality and productivity

  • Work with design engineers to transition new product/improvements into assemblies which can effectively be built with minimum variation by assembly personnel
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives including Kaizen activities and Lean 6Sigma implementation

QUALIFICATIONS SUMMARY:  KSA’s

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering required with five years of related experience or 10+ years of progressive manufacturing experience
  • Ability to apply and facilitate others on the basics of continuous improvement (LEAN) principles utilizing techniques such as:  Value Stream mapping, Leadership Standard Work (LSW), A3 facilitation   
  • Must be able to demonstrate use of Windows based software tools such as:  Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher, PowerPoint or equal 
  • High degree of interpersonal and communication skills required 
  • Understanding and use of complex process methodologies in order to develop parts and assemblies in at least one discipline (Machining, castings or Injection molding).  Good Industrial engineering skills (time motion studies, ergonomics, cycle time, takt time, JIT, etc.)
  • Good ERP exposure (has worked through issues to release BOM’s, routings, setup, queue, costing, etc. for complex bill). 

MUST HAVE REQUIREMENTS:

  • BSEE degree with 5 years' experience or 10+ years' work experience in related field
  • U.S Person
  • Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance (is applicable)
  • Works from minimal documentation, written or verbal instructions, schematics, rough sketches, diagrams, and layouts.
