Location FL 

is responsible for utilizing advanced circuit simulation and modeling tools (i.e MoM, FEM, PSpice), and PCB layout drafting tools demonstrating advanced tool proficiency in the design and implementation of advanced and complex, active, and passive RF through millimeter-wave engineering product development activities. The designs will include any combination of lumped elements and distributed structures with circuits realized in multi-layer low-temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) substrates.
This position focuses on accomplishing product developments using industry stand modeling tools, coupled with empirical laboratory testing and feedback to better correlate measured vs model accuracy, improve modeling methods and techniques and reduce overall product development time. Goals include demonstrating advanced mature tool use in implementing complex models and integrated assembly designs, mentoring junior members, standardizing developmental processes that support delivering manufacturable designs to agreed specifications within time and budget constraints, and fostering innovative solutions to customer needs.

The position requires writing technical articles, and blogs and presenting webinars that may be shared within the technical community and with company representatives.
Job Function (day-to-day responsibilities):
• Complete assigned active & passive catalog and customer-special product designs in the RF and millimeter-wave frequencies. Recommend electrical, mechanical, and process-related methods for improved performance and reliability.
• Lead the design and review of advanced and complex, catalog and customer specials in terms of modeling and implementation philosophies, realizability, innovation, architecture, reliability, cost, and performance margin.
• Maintain technical proficiency, keeping abreast of the latest technologies and trends, including analysis and test software, and disseminating throughout the department.
• Develop new testing platforms for the characterization of component properties not previously characterized.
• Based on skill and experience levels, establish workload and project expectations of junior members and provide mentoring and training as applicable.
• Collaborate with the Project Management team to track all technical developments according to established schedules and cost metrics.
• Support engineering team in ISO Audits and Management reviews and participate in internal and external audits.
• Review, update and generate company procedures and processes to ensure the highest level of design and manufacturing standards are achieved and maintained.
• Mentor and generate goals for junior department members and ensure the flow down is consistent with company goals and resources.
LTCC-Specific Functionality:

• Product Design and Development:
o Conduct the technical feasibility of requested design market requirements and specifications
o Using simulation software (ADS + HFSS or equivalent) design RF, Microwave, and Millimeter-Wave circuits
o Evaluate, characterize, measure, and assist in the qualification of new components, materials & suppliers
o Prepare design review meeting materials
o Utilize standard vector network analyzer test equipment to measure and characterize materials and fabricated circuits

 

Lili 

• Product Characterization, Qualification, and Test Development:
o Work with Product Engineers, Manufacturing Process Engineers, and Test Engineers to define test plans, block diagrams and test socket requirements
o Work with Quality Assurance and Manufacturing Engineering to develop qualification plans, test strategies, and methodologies to qualify new designs, topologies, and technologies
• Support:
o Lead the efforts to maintain the technical relevance in materials and processes, circuital topologies, design methodologies/techniques, simulation software and modeling techniques, device characterization techniques, and novel production testing strategies
o Provide mentorship and guidance to junior design engineers on design techniques and methodologies, simulation modeling, design for manufacturing, and specmanship, among others

Job Expectations
• During the first 6 months:
o Contribute to individual product assignments of significant difficulty appropriate for this level as agreed by employee & manager. Demonstrate mentorship & technical guidance influence within the team.
o Accomplish the design and implementation of complex catalog or customer special projects that introduce new or improved design or manufacturing techniques and methods, resulting in improved performance, reliability, design margin, and reduced cost.
o Achieve Applications Request response time metric of 48 hours on all Application Requests to Engineering.
o Maintain technical proficiency, keep abreast of the latest technologies and trends, including analysis and test software, and disseminate technical papers throughout the organization.
o During the first 12 months:
o Continue to improve productivity on individual product assignments of significant difficulty appropriate for this level as agreed by employee & manager. Demonstrate leadership, mentorship & technical guidance influence within the team.
o Collaborate with Product Marking Managers to establish future testing needs and implement appropriate solutions.
o Provide requests to the manager for yearly capital equipment and software tools.
o Mentor junior department members to ensure design philosophies and laboratory competency is consistent with department goals and resources. Review with the manager quarterly. Identify and work to improve any observed technical deficiencies.
o Review, update and generate multiple company procedures and processes to ensure the highest level of design and manufacturing standards are achieved and maintained.
o Coordinate with Program Managers daily to support the release of the balance of catalog product quotas and customer specials.

Qualifications (will include the education, knowledge, skills and competencies):

Education:
• Minimum Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) with 8 years of experience OR Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) with 6 years of experience

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:
• Established experience in complex, microwave, and millimeter-wave hardware design, including electrical, mechanical, thermal, and test; established experience in designing RF & Microwave layouts into the millimeter wave bands
• Familiarity with both thick-film and thin-film processes is a plus
• Strong background in EM simulation and modeling employing MoM and FEM engines. Prior experience with Ansys HFSS and Keysight’s ADS and Momentum is preferred.
• Real-word, strong lab analysis and debug experience required to verify simulated performance
• Knowledge of Matlab is a must, knowledge of Python is preferred
• Knowledge of CAD software such as SolidWorks and DraftSight is preferred
• Must have demonstrated excellent hands-on ability to assemble, tune, test, troubleshoot hardware, and train department members in laboratory methods, techniques, and applications.
• Must have demonstrated previous experience with surface mount and microelectronic chip-and-wire manufacturing methods and techniques, including soldering, wedge bonding, silver epoxy application, expansion coefficient and thermal conductivity of materials, plating, hard and soft substrate materials, printed circuit board manufacturing methods, and techniques.
• Must have at least 5 years of prior experience in the analysis, synthesis, and design of both lumped and distributed RF, Microwave, and Millimeter-wave filter topologies in planar, multi-layer technologies.
• Demonstrated experience and knowledge in the design and implementation of Couplers, Power Dividers, Baluns, Transformers, Mixers, attenuators, Bias Tees, Matching Networks, and Amplifiers is preferred
• Professional and positive approach, self-motivated, strong in building relationships, team player, dynamic, creative with the ability to work on own initiative.
• Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills in English.
• Business-related computer skills including ERP, PLM, and Microsoft Office.
• Strong technical understanding and skills in using drafting tools.
